The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has partnered with Shopee and LBC Express to bring world-famous Guimaras mangoes to a wider online market, marking a major step in digitally transforming the local agri-enterprise sector.
The initiative, launched through DTI’s Supply Chain and Logistics Group (SCLG) and Regional Operations Group, is designed to help local mango farmers tap into e-commerce by onboarding them onto the Shopee platform and integrating a reliable logistics network.
“This collaboration will enable Guimaras mangoes to be safely and efficiently delivered to customers nationwide, supporting the digital transformation of local agri-enterprises and enhancing consumer access to high-quality local produce,” said DTI Secretary Cristina A. Roque.
With three sellers already live on Shopee and 10 more currently undergoing onboarding, the partnership includes technical training sessions such as “Shopee 101,” which guides local entrepreneurs through account setup, product listing, and basic e-commerce strategies.
Thirteen participants attended the training, which was aimed at equipping farmers and sellers with the skills needed to thrive in the competitive digital economy.
LBC Express will serve as the official fulfillment partner, handling deliveries and ensuring the fresh mangoes arrive in top condition.
To further support local sellers during the ongoing Manggahan Festival, LBC’s Guimaras branch is offering discounted shipping rates and exclusive deals, helping reduce logistics costs and improve profit margins for farmers.
“We recognize the growing potential of e-commerce,” Roque said. “With full support from President BBM, we are thankful to private sector partners like Shopee and LBC Express for their continued support of DTI initiatives.”
“Our goal is to increase market access and reduce logistics and transport costs that will benefit both suppliers and consumers,” she added.
Shopee Philippines Head Vincent Lee welcomed the partnership, calling it a milestone for agricultural modernization and a boost for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“We are happy to partner with DTI to help Guimaras mango sellers embrace the digital economy and reach more consumers across the Philippines,” Lee said. “This initiative opens new opportunities for local agri-entrepreneurs and reflects Shopee’s ongoing commitment to helping Filipino MSMEs thrive online.”
The project also reflects the Bagong Pilipinas vision of a digitally empowered and globally competitive local economy by integrating traditional farming communities into online commerce platforms.
Guimaras mangoes, renowned for their sweetness and quality, are considered among the best in the world and are a vital agricultural export and tourism product of the island province.
In 2023, Guimaras produced approximately 11,000 metric tons of mangoes, with the provincial government reporting that more than PHP 150 million in annual revenue is generated from mango-related trade and tourism.
The DTI-SCLG emphasized that this model of public-private collaboration may soon be replicated in other provinces to support local producers of high-value agricultural goods and integrate them into national and regional e-commerce ecosystems.
