The Department of Trade and Industry Region VI has moved from supporting innovation to directly adopting it through a strategic service agreement with Rezbin Waste Technology Inc., a climate-tech startup based in Iloilo City.
The agreement was signed on April 22, 2026, at the DTI Regional Office 6 in Iloilo City by Mutya D. Eusores, officer in charge-regional director of DTI Region VI, and Martin Martirez, co-founder of Rezbin.
While DTI has long mentored and promoted local startups, the partnership signals a shift toward government serving as a buyer of innovation.
By procuring Rezbin’s sustainability service, DTI Region VI is helping provide proof of concept for homegrown technology within government operations.
“We, at DTI 6, reaffirms our strong support for startup innovations by not only enabling their growth through programs and partnerships, but also by actively serving as a market for their solutions.”
“By adopting homegrown innovators like Rezbin, we demonstrate that gov-ernment institutions can lead by example.”
“We drive innovation uptake while advancing sustainability and inclusive economic development.”
Rezbin is a Filipino climate-tech company that turns traditional recycling into a digital and rewards-based experience.
Its platform uses a mobile app and smart recycling stations where users earn points for donating clean, segregated recyclables.
Those points can be redeemed for rewards from partner brands through the app.
Under the agreement, Rezbin will provide DTI Region VI with an integrated waste management system anchored on a sustainability dashboard.
The platform will give the regional office access to real-time analytics for waste diversion tracking and impact reporting to help monitor environmental compliance efforts.
Rezbin’s authorized partners will also conduct scheduled weekly collections of clean and segregated recyclables, including PET bottles, aluminum cans, paper and cartons, to help channel materials back into the circular economy.
The system includes a gamified office engagement component through the Rezbin mobile app, allowing personnel and guests to earn points for recycling and compete on leaderboards.
The setup is designed to encourage long-term responsible waste disposal habits within the workplace.
“Through this partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry Region VI, Rezbin is scaling innovative, tech-driven recycling solutions that empower communities and businesses alike.”
The collaboration supports the region’s push for a more circular economy by reducing landfill dependence while helping grow the local green economy.
DTI Region VI serves Western Visayas, positioning the partnership within the government’s broader regional development and sustainability efforts.
Rezbin says it was founded in 2023 with the goal of making plastic recycling easier and more rewarding, and it has already expanded partnerships with institutions in Western Visayas.
The agreement also highlights how public sector procurement can help local startups validate and scale practical technologies developed in the region.
