The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) and Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines (SCMAP) will launch the Section G Job Blueprint for Wholesale & Retail Trade on June 16, 2025 at Tres Restaurant, SM North EDSA Annex.
The blueprint offers a comprehensive framework to boost competitiveness and create jobs in the sector.
Secretary Cristina A. Roque said, “Our wholesale and retail sector are the backbone of countless Filipino families…this blueprint ensures no Filipino is left behind as we modernize and grow.”
The blueprint was crafted through nationwide stakeholder dialogues, surveys, focus‑group discussions and inputs from the 2024 Wholesale and Retail Trade Forum.
In 2024, the sector accounted for PHP 4.9 trillion — 18 percent of GDP — and employed 10.2 million Filipinos, or 21 percent of the workforce.
This economic weight was echoed by data showing wholesale and retail trade was a top contributor to regional growth in 2024.
The launch coincides with a two‑day job fair on June 16–17 at SM North EDSA Annex’s Cyberzone, offering on‑the‑spot hiring by major retailers, logistics and supply chain firms.
Participating companies include Ace Hardware, Bench, SM Retail, Maersk Fulfillment, VANS Philippines and others.
Industry analysts say the blueprint addresses key challenges like high logistics costs, limited local sourcing and rising e‑commerce competition.
By targeting skills requirements and workforce pathways, the initiative aligns with President Marcos Jr.’s vision for a future‑ready inclusive economy.
The coordinated effort between DTI, PRA, SCMAP and DOLE reflects a strategic push to strengthen a sector pivotal to economic resilience and job creation.
