The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is forging landmark partnerships with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) and Airspeed to boost nationwide access to premium Guimaras mangoes, as announced during the ongoing Manggahan Festival.
DTI and PHLPost are set to sign a memorandum of understanding on May 20 in Guimaras, establishing a direct-to-consumer ordering system for the island’s prized mangoes.
“This partnership with PHLPost is more than just a logistics solution—it’s about bringing the pride of Guimaras straight to Filipino homes,” said DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque.
“In line with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. under the ‘Bagong Pilipinas,’ we are strengthening local industries and making sure our hardworking farmers earn what they truly deserve,” she added.
Fresh mangoes will be sourced directly from the Guimaras Mango Growers and Producers Cooperative, with customers able to place orders by scanning a QR code on promotional materials.
PHLPost will ensure last-mile delivery to any location in Metro Manila at a fixed shipping rate of PHP470, promising freshness and efficiency.
Postmaster General Luis Carlos affirmed the postal service’s commitment to the initiative, which aims to enhance economic opportunities for local agricultural communities.
In a parallel effort to scale mango distribution, DTI has also partnered with end-to-end logistics firm Airspeed, which will source mangoes directly from Guimaras Wonders Farm.
“The Manggahan Festival is a vital platform to showcase the exceptional quality of Guimaras mangoes and their unique GI status,” Roque said, referring to the fruit’s designation as the Philippines’ first and only Geographical Indication (GI) product.
This designation recognizes Guimaras mangoes for their distinct quality and origin, protected under the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines.
“In line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive under the Bagong Pilipinas agenda, the Department is committed to empowering local producers, expanding market access, and strengthening logistics,” Roque said.
Airspeed’s partnership includes a once-weekly roll-on-roll-off fleet service, direct weekly purchases of 500 kilograms to 1 ton of mangoes during the festival, and retail distribution through SM Stores.
The company is also exploring export opportunities and will provide logistics support to Guimaras Wonders Farm’s Metro Manila clientele.
“Airspeed is committed to bringing premium Guimaras mangoes to broader markets,” said Mariz Regis, President and CEO of Airspeed International.
“We are committed to making it happen for our farmers and entrepreneurs in building their businesses and communities,” she added.
Guimaras Wonders Farm owner Rosario Griesser welcomed the partnership, calling it a “big boost” for her business and the wider mango-growing community.
“We’re very thankful to Airspeed for providing the logistics support that helps us bring our mangoes to more customers safely, efficiently, and in excellent condition,” Griesser said.
