DTI Iloilo trains 25 MSMEs on food safety

ILOILO CITY — Twenty-five newly assisted micro, small and medium enterprises from Negosyo Centers across Iloilo province participated in a seminar on mandatory packaging and labeling requirements and food safety conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry-Iloilo through its Negosyo Center Packaging, Regulatory Compliance, Intellectual Property and Product Design Enhancement, or NC PRIDE, Program on Aug. 10.

Held via Zoom, the seminar aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of product packaging and labeling requirements, food safety, and regulatory compliance as they prepare their products for the market.

Participants learned about applicable packaging and labeling requirements and food safety considerations designed to help improve product quality, comply with regulations, and protect consumers.

Philippine Food and Drug Administration regulations set labeling requirements for prepackaged food products distributed in the country, making regulatory compliance an important consideration for food enterprises seeking to bring their products to market.

The seminar featured resource speakers from the Department of Science and Technology-Iloilo, including Science Research Specialist II Janene Denila and Project Technical Assistant Roi Sirach Khris Lgon, who shared technical knowledge and guidance with participating MSMEs.

The seminar is part of DTI Iloilo’s continuing efforts under the NC PRIDE Program to help MSMEs enhance their products through improved packaging, labeling, product design, and regulatory compliance.

The initiative ultimately seeks to make participating enterprises more competitive and their products market-ready.
