The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Iloilo strengthened its collaboration with the local government of Janiuay in a bid to establish an OTOP Hub and expand support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the municipality.
DTI officials paid a courtesy visit to the Janiuay municipal government to present the key provisions of Republic Act No. 11960, or the OTOP Philippines Act.
The law institutionalizes the One Town, One Product (OTOP) Program as a strategic initiative to promote inclusive local economic growth by supporting MSMEs.
Discussions focused on the program’s full package of assistance, including product development, marketing support, capacity building, and improved access to financing.
A centerpiece of the visit was the proposed establishment of an OTOP Hub in Janiuay—a permanent space that will showcase local products, host training activities, and serve as a one-stop shop for homegrown goods.
DTI said the hub would not only highlight local craftsmanship and innovation but also improve market access for Janiuay-based enterprises.
DTI Iloilo was represented by Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist Florenda C. Abian and Trade and Industry Development Specialist Shayne J. Taganao.
They were joined by Albert Mabuhay, business counselor from the DTI Negosyo Center Janiuay, who actively assists local entrepreneurs with enterprise development.
Mayor Paulino M. Parian expressed full support for the OTOP Hub initiative and reaffirmed the municipal government’s commitment to partnering with DTI to bring it to fruition.
He said the project aligns with Janiuay’s vision of building a resilient local economy and promoting sustainable livelihoods for its people.
DTI Iloilo and the LGU of Janiuay said the partnership reflects a shared goal of fostering innovation, encouraging entrepreneurship, and helping local industries grow under the OTOP framework.
The initiative is part of DTI’s broader push to strengthen regional development and empower MSMEs as key drivers of inclusive economic growth.
