The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Iloilo, through its Negosyo Center, partnered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to train local farmers and livelihood beneficiaries in Brgy. Igcabugao, Igbaras on basic business management.
The one-day workshop focused on entrepreneurship, business fundamentals, financial literacy, and bookkeeping to help participants manage and sustain their micro-enterprises.
Twenty-eight participants, mostly beneficiaries of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), attended the training held in the upland village, located 54 kilometers from Iloilo City.
Brgy. Igcabugao, known as a popular hiking jump-off point, relies mainly on agriculture as its primary source of income.

“This collaborative effort underscores our shared commitment to support community-based micro-enterprises and inclusive local economic development,” organizers said.
Business counselors from the Negosyo Center served as resource persons, including Christian N. Torrefiores (NC Igbaras), Niho Anthony V. Eder (NC Tubungan), and Ram Ydnar Ely S. Tribulete (NC Guimbal).
“This training provides practical knowledge that can help participants strengthen their livelihood projects,” said Eder, who facilitated the session on financial literacy.
The program also introduced participants to the basics of business planning and emphasized the role of strong management practices in sustaining growth.
Since its establishment in 2014 under Republic Act 10644 or the Go Negosyo Act, the Negosyo Center has promoted ease of doing business and empowered Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.
Through initiatives like these, the government aims to generate employment and increase income opportunities in rural communities.
