BACOLOD City – One of the two suspects in the killing of a man at Purok Water Lily, Barangay Binubuhan, Bago City, Negros Occidental last Sunday was arrested yesterday, Oct 25, 2021.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, city police chief, said Pintoy Rodriguez was nabbed in a pursuit operation after he was tagged by one of the witnesses in the murder of Glenn Mark Longanilla, 26, of the said village.
Malong said a witness saw Rodriguez cleaning a cane cutter believed to be used in the crime right after the incident.
Prior to that, Rodriguez and Abner Mateo, who came from a drinking session, went to Longanilla’s house early that night looking for the latter.
Malong said the suspects then reportedly threatened Longanilla’s sister and told her that they will kill the victim if they saw him. This prompted the sister to ask help from her brother to look for Longanilla.
But while they were searching for him, they saw the suspects coming from the area, where they later found the lifeless Longanilla beside the sugarcane field.
“Daw ka grabe gid ang akig sang naghimo sini sa biktima based sa mga pilas,” Malong said, adding that the victim succumbed to multiple hack wounds in the head, face, legs, hands, and other parts of his body.
Malong said they are initially eyeing misunderstanding as possible motive in the incident. “Nakainom ni sila abi pagkadto sa balay sang victim pero wala ta pa gid nabal-an if ano ni ginhalinan or if may iban pa na anggulo,” she added.
Meanwhile, Malong said that Mateo is still at large.
