Two drunks allegedly attacked and later beheaded an elderly farmer Tuesday evening in San Remigio, Antique
The victim, 63-year-old Ronito Aniceto, was on his way to Sitio Puro, Barangay Nasuli, San Remigio, when the grisly incident happened.
Police Lieutenant Johnny Arnad, San Remigio police chief, said suspects Ruben Gregorio, 27, and Joseph Anacleto, 30, are farmers who also reside at Barangay Nasuli, a village two kilometers from the town proper.
Arnad said the suspects took turns in hacking the victim with bolos for no apparent reason or cause.
Aniceto’s head was severed from his body and the suspects even picked it up and repeatedly tossed it around.
The victim’s head was later recovered around nine meters away from his body.
One of the bolos was found at the crime scene while the other was seized from Gregorio.
Police Staff Sergeant July Bob Miles, San Remigio police investigator, said the suspects went to their respective houses after the incident.
“Apparently, they don’t have plans of fleeing,” he said.
Police immediately arrested the suspects, who still had blood in their hands.
Aside from drunkenness, Miles said personal grudges may have triggered the incident.
The victim allegedly used to waylay the suspects when he was drunk.
Miles said a murder charge was already slapped against Gregorio and Anacleto.
They are detained at the lock-up cell of San Remigio Police Station for proper disposition of their case.
