BACOLOD City A police officer was injured after he was allegedly stabbed by a drunk man who ran amok at Barangay Balintawak, Escalante City, Negros Occidental on May 12, 2019.
Wounded was Police Senior Master Sergeant Russell Joseph Canoy, 42, of Escalante City Police Station.
Police Captain Ronald Santillan, deputy city police chief, said the policeman responded to a call for assistance after the suspect identified as Ramon Escovilla Jr. 29, of Barangay Alimango was creating alarm and scandal while under the influence of liquor at the said area.
Escovilla ran away upon sensing the police officers. When Canoy caught up with him, the suspect drew a gaff or bladed implement used in cockfighting and repeatedly stabbed the cop.
Two other police officers later subdued and arrested the suspect.
Canoy sustained four stab wounds and was rushed to a hospital in Sagay City.
Escovilla is detained at the police station and faces frustrated murder charges.
