Intoxicated at 11:30 a.m., a 37-year-old man went unruly during the distribution of government’s cash aid in Calinog, Iloilo.
Arnold Navigar Sr. allegedly went binge drinking morning of August 10. He then went to the barangay hall of Baje San Julian, Calinog where the special Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) was being distributed.
Captain Dadje Delima, Calinog police chief, said Navigar was shouting while holding a bladed weapon.
A police officer assigned to the AICS distribution immediately responded but the suspect allegedly poked a 12-gauge shotgun at him.
When the gun did not go off, Navigar scampered to a nearby sugarcane plantation.
More cops responded and went after him. He was later subdued and placed behind bars.
Delima said Navigar went binge drinking after his family allegedly accused him of stealing.
While he has no police records, he had been the subject of complaints in their barangay for being a “maoy” or being unruly when drunk.
Navigar is now detained and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and Batas Pambansa Bilang 6 or illegal possession of deadly weapon.
He will also be facing a case for attempted homicide with direct assault for attempting to shoot a cop.
