BACOLOD City – A police officer sustained minor injuries after he was allegedly hit by a motorcycle rider who evaded a police checkpoint at Bangga Hermilinda, Barangay Mansilingan here Monday night.
Wounded was Patrolman Rodel Marca, 23, a personnel of Police Station 7.
Police Lieutenant Florentino Abalayan, station commander, said they flagged down 32-year-old Ayan Lamintac, of the said village, in a checkpoint when he sped away and hit Marca.
“He was drunk on his way home and he was not wearing a helmet, Abalayan said.
Abalayan said Marca’s armalite rifle handguard was also damaged.
Lamintac was arrested and is facing reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries and damage to property, the station commander said.
However, the suspect, who is a security guard in one of the warehouses at Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) port was released from police custody, after the submission of evidence lapsed the reglementary period allowed for the inquest proceedings, Abalayan said.
The criminal complaint was filed on regular filing before the City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday, he added.
