It is still unclear what drove a 28-year-old laborer to stab his two drinking companions shortly before midnight of August 3, 2021 in Batad, Iloilo.
The suspect, Ruben Villanueva of Barangay Pasayan, Batad remains at large as of this writing.
Louden Besonia, 20, and his uncle, Virgil Venancio, 36 also resident of Pasayan village, were injured in the knife attack.
Besonia suffered injuries on his chest, lower back, and middle finger while Venancio injured his right wrist.
The victims were taken to Jesus Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan town for treatment.
Lieutenant Ma. Rosela Buenvenida, Batad police chief, said the trio went out for drinks after getting their salary from DSWD’s cash-for-work program.
It was already around 11:40 p.m. of Tuesday when Venancio told Besonia that they have had enough drinks and should go home.
As the victims got up from their seats, Villanueva allegedly stabbed them without any apparent provocation.
The suspect immediately fled after the incident.
