ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 40-year-old man drowned to his death while swimming in the beach Sunday afternoon at Barangay Pawa, Panay Capiz.
An attending physician of Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital declared Rene Ucag of Brgy. Bailan, Pontevedra town dead.
Based on the investigation conducted by Panay Municipal Police Station, Ucag was last seen alive swimming in the beach. He failed to surface after diving in the water.
His friends tried to rescue him but it took 30 minutes before he was found.
It was learned that the victim was drunk when the incident happened.
Meanwhile, a 12-year-old girl pupil was believed to have drowned too after she slipped off the dam of Capiz Sugar Central in Poblacion President Roxas, Capiz Sunday afternoon.
The body of alias Aking is still being searched by volunteer groups as of 2 p.m. Monday.
The victim, a grade 6 pupil of President Roxas Elementary School, was with her two friends looking for spiders when the accident happened.
