BACOLOD CITY – A 50-year-old farmer was killed in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, on Friday after he was allegedly stabbed by his younger brother during a heated argument following a drinking session.
Police Maj. Ryan Villasario, chief of the Don Salvador Benedicto Municipal Police Station, said the victim, identified only as “Arnel,” and the suspect, 30-year-old “Edgar,” had just come from a drinking session with friends at the barangay proper.
An argument reportedly broke out between the two on their way home, escalating into a physical altercation.
Villasario said the suspect allegedly used a bladed weapon to stab his older brother.
He added that the suspect may have grabbed the weapon from the victim during the commotion.
The victim sustained two stab wounds to the chest and was declared dead at the hospital.
The suspect suffered minor injuries to his hands.
Edgar surrendered to barangay officials with the help of family members on Saturday afternoon.
Police are awaiting the family’s decision on whether to file charges.
