Drugs, gun seized in Passi City shabu sting

ILOILO CITY — Illegal drugs and a firearm were seized during a police anti-narcotics operation on the evening of Aug. 25 in Passi City, Iloilo.
Police arrested alias Rino, 42, a resident of Barangay Bagacay, Passi City, where the operation was conducted.
Members of the Passi City Component Police Station seized 11 sachets containing approximately 80 grams of suspected shabu, a single-shot, break-type .45-caliber firearm, and two rounds of live ammunition.
Police Lt. Col. German Magbanua, Passi City police chief, said the seized drugs had a standard drug price of PHP 544,000.
The day before, the Maasin Municipal Police Station also arrested a high-value target in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Naslo, Maasin, Iloilo.
Police operatives arrested alias Rey, 38, of Barangay Layog, Maasin, at around 10:07 p.m. Aug. 24.
Police seized approximately 60 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP 435,000 from the suspect.
The operation stemmed from information provided by community members regarding the suspect’s alleged involvement in illegal drug activities.
Iloilo police chief Col. Bayani Razalan lauded the police operations and acknowledged the vigilance and cooperation of residents in the arrest of the two suspects.
“The relentless campaign of Ilonggo cops against illegal drugs underscores our commitment to sustained law enforcement operations in close coordination with the community and other law enforcement agencies. With their support, we can bring those identified as being involved in the illegal drug trade before the court of law,” Razalan said.
The two suspects are detained and will face charges for violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Rino will also face charges under Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in connection with the firearm and ammunition seized during the Passi City operation.
