A 59-year-old alleged drug runner from Capiz was arrested in a police anti-drug operation late Wednesday morning in Barangay Nagsulang Lemery, Iloilo.
Police identified the suspect only as alias Bruno, a resident of Barangay Punta Tabuc, Roxas City, Capiz.
Members of the Lemery Municipal Police Station arrested Bruno in a buy-bust operation, police said.
Seized from the suspect were about 250 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated standard drug price of PHP 1.7 million.
Police Capt. John Robles, officer in charge of the Lemery police, said the suspect had a previous drug-related arrest in 2008.
Robles said Bruno had been detained at the New Bilibid Prison’s maximum-security compound before he was released in 2014.
The suspect told police that he used to work with a drug distributor known as alias Dodoy, who was allegedly killed during the Duterte administration’s anti-drug campaign.
Bruno also hinted that he is now working for another drug personality based in Capiz, but he declined to identify the person.
Police said the suspect had allegedly been tasked with dropping off illegal drugs in the fourth and fifth districts of Iloilo province.
Robles said Bruno was arrested after two months of surveillance.
The suspect is now under police custody and will face charges for violating Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
