Drug seized from PDL at Capiz jail

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A 19-year-old male person deprived of liberty was placed in the restricted area of the Capiz Rehabilitation Center after three sachets of suspected shabu were recovered from his possession Tuesday afternoon, July 7.

Reports said the suspected illegal drugs were recovered around 5:30 p.m. from the PDL, identified only by the alias “Aledar” of Pilar, Capiz, as he was about to go to the comfort room near the chapel.

The suspected shabu was placed in a lunch box and detected by a jail guard.

A fellow PDL had informed the duty jail guard about the inmate’s suspicious behavior.

The recovered substances were brought to Iloilo for laboratory examination.

Arjuna Yngcong, CRC provincial warden, said Thursday, July 9, that he would conduct an investigation into how the suspected illegal drugs entered the provincial jail.

Yngcong said the inmate was brought to the Roxas City Police Station for booking.

Charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, will be filed against him.

Yngcong said the inmate was arrested and jailed in November last year for alleged violations of RA 9165 and Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The Roxas City police will also conduct a separate investigation into the incident.

Yngcong said the inmate was supposed to apply for a plea bargaining agreement and was expected to be released.

However, he said the expected release would no longer push through because of the incident.

RA 9165 penalizes the possession, sale, trading, administration, dispensation, delivery, distribution, and transportation of dangerous drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals.

RA 10591 regulates the ownership, possession, carrying, manufacture, dealing in, and importation of firearms, ammunition, and firearm parts in the country.
