Drowned Negros cop receives posthumous valor medal

BACOLOD CITY — The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office posthumously honored Police Master Sgt. Fernando Marfa Jr. for his heroism, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Police Col. Dennis Wenceslao, Nocppo director, personally bestowed the Medalya ng Kadakilaan during a visit to Marfa’s wake on Tuesday.

The Medalya ng Kadakilaan, or PNP Heroism Medal, is conferred in recognition of acts of courage and selflessness in the line of duty.

On behalf of Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, director of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region, Wenceslao also extended financial assistance to the family as a gesture of sympathy and solidarity.

Negros Occidental police officials expressed their heartfelt condolences to Marfa’s bereaved family and assured them of the continued support of the Philippine National Police.

According to Nocppo, the solemn visit honored Marfa’s life, courage, and selfless service, whose sacrifice will forever be remembered and serve as an inspiration to fellow police officers.

Marfa, 40, drowned in a river while trying to save two companions who were swept away by a strong current during a seaborne patrol operation in Barangay Luna, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Aug. 7.
