A driver allegedly ran off with about PHP 200,000 after robbing his co-worker late in the afternoon of April 17 in Barangay Lanit, Jaro, Iloilo City.
Police identified the suspect only as alias Jayjay, 40, of Barangay Balantang, Jaro.
The victim, identified only as Julienne, 25, was his co-worker.
Capt. Mavin Laraño, chief of Iloilo City Police Station 3, said Jayjay and Julienne worked for a motor parts supply company based in Iloilo City Proper.
Laraño said Jayjay worked as a driver, while Julienne served as a collector.
The two had come from northern Iloilo and were on their way to their office when the suspect allegedly declared a holdup.
Police said Jayjay pulled over in Barangay Lanit, Jaro.
He then told Julienne, “Pasensyahanay lang ta kinahanglan ko gid ang kwarta.”
Jayjay allegedly took a knife from his bag, prompting Julienne to hand over a purse containing PHP 200,000.
Police said the suspect then got out of the vehicle and went to a parked motorcycle a short distance away.
He then fled toward Leganes town.
Laraño said the suspect claimed he was forced to commit the crime because he was ill and had children to feed.
Police immediately launched a hot-pursuit operation but failed to capture the suspect.
