BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said dredging must be a continuing operation to revive the natural waterways after the recent flashfloods that occurred in several localities in northern Negros.
Lacson said flooding caused by heavy rains has been affecting and damaging agricultural lands and residential areas in the Third District, particularly in Victorias City, that is why dredging must be a continuing operation to revive the natural waterways.
Lacson attended the launching of the Maintenance Dredging Program of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) at Carugiat River along Victorias City National Highway recently.
The dredging project started at Carugiat River to Malihaw and Magnanod Rivers.
Lacson also thanked third district Rep. Kiko Benitez and Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca for their effort and support in sharing a common vision of a flood-free Victorias City.
He also encouraged the LGUs to purchase their own dredger especially those prone to heavy flooding during the rainy season.
Also present in the activity were Office of the Civil Defense Region VI Director Bobby Nuñez, Negros Occ. Board Member Juvy Pepello, and Engr. Jaime Javellana of the Negros Occidental First District Engineering Office.
