Draymond Green, Warriors agree to 1-year contract extension

Draymond Green will still don the blue and gold threads when the 2026–2027 NBA season tips off after the Golden State Warriors re-signed him to a one-year, USD 27.7 million contract extension.
The offseason move became official after Rich Paul, Green’s agent and founder of Klutch Sports Group, confirmed the development to ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania.
Initially, Green’s tenure with Golden State went into limbo after he declined his player option during the last week of June 2026.
Following that decision, the four-time NBA champion entered the free-agent market as an unrestricted free agent, sparking speculation that he might leave the Warriors and end his 14-year tenure with the franchise.
However, multiple reports indicated that Green intentionally became a temporary free agent in an attempt to lure LeBron James to sign with the Warriors.
That strategic move came to no avail after James chose the Philadelphia 76ers for his 24th NBA season, signing a two-year, USD 8 million contract that includes a player option.
As Golden State’s plan stalled, Green and his camp quickly finalized the deal to return to the Warriors, resulting in a one-year contract extension.
Green and the Warriors are looking for a fresh start after being eliminated by the Phoenix Suns in the final stage of last season’s NBA Play-In Tournament.
After rallying for a 126–121 victory to eliminate the Los Angeles Clippers, the Warriors failed to withstand Phoenix’s 3-point barrage in the playoff-seeding knockout game, losing 111–96.
With Jimmy Butler sidelined for the majority of the 2025–2026 season due to a torn right anterior cruciate ligament, Golden State struggled to regain its identity and is hoping to redeem itself when the 2026–2027 season begins.
The Warriors still have a championship-contending roster led by Green, Butler, Stephen Curry, Brandon Podziemski, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, Moses Moody, and rookie Yaxel Lendeborg.
