The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Guimaras District Engineering Office has undertaken two major road-widening projects in the province to improve traffic flow and safety.
The PHP50 million widening project along the national road in Barangay Salvacion, Nueva Valencia, covers an 800-linear meter stretch. The existing two-lane road is being expanded to four lanes to increase capacity and support growing transportation needs.
The project also includes the installation of 20 sets of solar-powered LED lights, metal guardrails, thermoplastic pavement markings, and warning signs to assist drivers, especially during low-light conditions.
Meanwhile, the PHP81.6 million widening of the Guimaras Circumferential Road covers sections in Barangay Sto. Rosario, New Poblacion, and Cansilayan in Buenavista, and Barangay San Enrique in San Lorenzo.
A total of 2 kilometers of road are being widened from two lanes to four lanes. These roads are heavily used by residents and tourists traveling to different parts of the province.
The expansion is expected to ease congestion during peak hours and enhance safety through the installation of 16 sets of solar LED lights, guardrails, pavement markings, and warning signs.
In a report from District Engineer Randolfo A. Melosantos, Officer-in-Charge Director Joel F. Limpengco said the upgrades will make travel safer and more efficient.
“These road-widening projects will help reduce travel delays, improve visibility, and make daily commutes safer for everyone. It’s a practical step toward better mobility across Guimaras,” Limpengco said. (DPWH)
