DPWH Rehabilitates Leon-Antique Boundary Road

Traveling to the mountainous barangays in Leon and the nearby town of Alimodian is now safer, thanks to the newly rehabilitated road by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The DPWH has completed the rehabilitation of Junction Bancal-Leon-Antique Boundary Road, specifically in the barangays of Anonang, Talacuan, and Tagsing in Leon, Iloilo.

DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel emphasized that the road rehabilitation was essential to restore the functionality and safety of sections that had deteriorated due to increased traffic, environmental conditions, and aging infrastructure.

“This rehabilitation effort will extend the service life of our existing road and ensure it meets safety and performance standards,” Oropel said.

He added, “This will contribute significantly to economic growth and the development of road safety structures, improving services for commuters and enhancing their quality of life.”

The PHP 55.96-million project, implemented by DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office, covers 1.613 kilometers and is divided into three sections: section 1 with 926 meters, section 2 with 98 meters, and section 3 with 589 meters. The project includes earthworks, drainage systems, paved shoulders, sidewalks, and slope protection.

District Engineer Mario G. Soriano stated that repairing the road will improve mobility for residents and make it easier to transport goods from farms to markets.

“The improved road condition plays a crucial role in economic development and growth in the locality, providing easier access to basic services and economic opportunities,” Soriano stressed.

He added, “This will ensure safer and continuous access to the upland barangays of Leon and Alimodian, even during heavy rains, helping residents secure their essential needs.”

Road rehabilitation not only benefits motorists but also enhances community safety, reduces accidents, boosts economic growth, promotes social connectivity, and encourages tourism development, ultimately improving the quality of life for all. (DPWH)
