The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of access road leading to Baybay Beach and Alibagon Bakhawan Park in the town of Makato; and flood control structures along Aklan River in the town of Kalibo, both in the province of Aklan.
DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said the newly paved 550-meter road that cost P9. million included a 109.5-meter slope protection and 639-meter metal guard.
It rail was implemented by DPWH-Aklan District Engineering Office.
Citing a report from District Engineer Noel L. Fuentebella, Secretary Villlar said the project was completed in less than four months.

“With this newly constructed road, we hope to encourage more visitors to come and appreciate the hidden treasures in the province of Aklan, boosting the local tourism industry and helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the area,” Secretary Villar said.
“Locals residing close to the new road are also benefiting with the faster and safer travel towards business establishments, health centers and school in the area.
Meantime, DPWH 6 Regional Director Lea N. Delfinado said the construction of P46.65-million revetment wall with the length of 310 lineal meters along Aklan River in Madalag was completed ahead of schedule while another P46.65-million flood control structure in Kalibo with the length of 303.61 lineal meters in already around 90 percent accomplished is set for completion by November this year.
“These two flood control structures along Aklan River, specifically in the towns of Madalag and Kalibo will ensure the safety of the residents living near the river, as well as their properties and source of livelihood during heavy rains by blocking flash floods and soil erosion caused by water overflow,” Director Delfinado said.
