Bringing safer and more accessible travel to residents of Jordan, Buenavista, and Nueva Valencia in Guimaras, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Guimaras District Engineering Office has completed four road improvement projects totaling PHP 132.5 million.
The largest of the four, costing PHP 96.5 million, involved the rehabilitation of the Alaguisoc-Piña Road, covering 2.91 kilometers between Barangay Alaguisoc in Jordan and Barangay Piña in Buenavista.
The improved road features slope protection, concrete drainage, metal guardrails, pavement markings, and ten solar-powered LED streetlights to boost visibility in low-light conditions.
In Nueva Valencia, a PHP 14.7-million concrete road now connects Sitio Ilawod, the Salvacion Public Cemetery in Barangay Salvacion, and Sitio Badang in Barangay Lucmayan.
The 1.524 lane-kilometer stretch includes slope protection, lined canals, and drainage pipes to control runoff and reduce flooding and erosion risks.
Another project in the same town includes the construction of a 438-meter road in Barangay Sto. Domingo costing PHP 11.6 million.
The road enhances access to the town center and includes guardrails, solar LED lighting, school zone signs, and reflectorized pavement markings to improve road safety.
A separate PHP 9.7-million road concreting project in Barangay Calabagnan, Nueva Valencia, spans 543 lane meters and links Sitio Toong, Sitio Ilaya, Sitio Pag-asa, and Sitio Lusong.
It includes slope protection, guardrails, reflectorized thermoplastic markings, and solar-powered lights for safer travel at night.
District Engineer Randolfo A. Melosantos reported that these upgrades aim to improve mobility and road safety for local communities.
DPWH Region 6 Officer-in-Charge Jose Al V. Fruto said the infrastructure will benefit residents, especially those in remote areas, by reducing travel time and enhancing safety.
“We are hopeful that these road projects will make a real difference in the daily lives of our people, especially for those living in far-flung areas,” Fruto said.
