DPWH completes flood control, road concreting projects in Antique

Safer transportation as well as an improved local economy is on hand for the people of Laua-an in Antique with the completion of two significant infrastructures in the town.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Antique District Engineering Office recently completed two infrastructure projects – a flood control structure and a concrete road which aim to provide safety and security to the residents while also boosting the local economy.

Citing a report from District Engineer Mark Anthony M. Alejo, DPWH-6 Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno emphasized the importance of these projects in improving the quality of life of the locals, as it will ensure the protection of the residents and provide easy access to essential services.

“The completion of the flood control structure and concrete road projects in Antique demonstrates our unwavering commitment to prioritize the safety and welfare of the people,” RD Bueno said.

The ₱49.6-million flood control project that spans 264 lineal meters along the Paliwan River in Barangay Guinbangaan, is intended to safeguard the residents and their properties from severe flooding.

The concreting of Barangay San Ramon-Barangay Latazon-Barangay Liberato Road provides access to Iloilo-Antique Road, Laua-an Public Market, and Muscovado Sugar Plant.

Costing ₱9.7 million, the 322-lineal meter concrete road is intended to provide easy access to local tourist destinations and boost local agribusiness and tourism industries.

“We are hopeful that these projects will contribute to the economic growth and development of the province while improving the safety and quality of life of the Antiqueños,” Alejo said. (DPWH-6)
