Two significant slope protection structures are delivered by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the people of southern Negros Occidental – a river protection structure in Binalbagan, and road slope protection in La Castellana.
Based on the report of District Engineer Marivic M. Roldan, Regional Director (RD) Nerie D. Bueno said DPWH-Negros Occidental 2nd District Engineering Office has completed the construction of slope protection along Guintubhan River.
The ₱96.5-million project involves the construction of a 251.8-lineal-meter river bank protection upstream of Guintubhan Bridge along Binalbagan-Isabela Road.
“This structure is built to protect lives, properties, and livelihood of the people, as well as the agricultural lands around the area, especially during rainy days,” RD Bueno said.
“This will also serve as a defense against overflow caused by strong and rushing water from the mountains that may pose danger to the people, especially the children,” RD Bueno added.
Meanwhile, DE Marivic R. Roldan said the ongoing construction of ₱48.3-million structure along Vallehermoso-Canalon City-La Castellana Road includes the installation of 143-meter-high tensile wire mesh to prevent possible landslide and rockfall.
“This structure will prevent the slope from erosion that may damage the road or hinder the flow of traffic, and protect motorists from the danger of falling debris and rocks, and safeguarding the lives, properties and livelihood of the people,” DE Roldan said.
“This will also ensure continuous agricultural productivity by protecting farmlands and vegetable plantations in the area,” DE Roldan added.
These slope protection structures are among the significant contributions of the Department in ensuring the safety and welfare of the people in the community and providing motorists and the traveling public with a smooth and safer traffic flow. (DPWH-6)
