Don’t patronize illegal firecracker sellers – BFP

BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Negros Occidental on Tuesday called on Negrenses to avoid patronizing “illegal sellers” of firecrackers.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Glenn Raymund Granada, officer-in-charge of the BFP Negros Occidental Fire Safety Enforcement Section, said they will also step up their campaign to prevent the number of blast injuries through the use of firecrackers.

Granada said that every local government unit is mandated to establish a designated area, where the selling firecrackers and pyrotechnics is allowed, to avoid accidents.

“They should not buy it in a sidewalk area,” he added.

Granada joined the briefing on fireworks related injury awareness campaign with the Department of Health and Philippine National Police held in Talisay City Tuesday.

Selling of firecrackers outside areas designated by the local government unit (LGU) is illegal, Granada said.

As stipulated in Executive Order No. 28 issued by then President Rodrigo Duterte, private citizens are barred from putting up their own fireworks displays or use firecrackers in their residences.

This meant they could only light their firecrackers or watch firecrackers display in designated areas.

The designated areas are to be identified by the police, in coordination with the respective barangays and local government units.
