BACOLOD City – Mayor Marxlen dela Cruz of Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB), Negros Occidental told residents not to lower their guard after all confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in the town have fully recovered.
Dela Cruz declared the town as COVID-free during the 34th local Inter-Agency Task Force meeting early this week.
He told Daily Guardian that all 11 COVID-19 cases in the town have recovered.
Currently, four persons are under monitoring in the town’s quarantine facility.
The task force holds weekly meeting to discuss ways to curb the spread of the virus.
“We meet weekly since March 15, we never stopped,” Dela Cruz said
The meeting includes all barangay captains, department heads, and stakeholders.
“We get updates on the data, we analyze and discuss strategies and measures to be taken,” the mayor added.
He said that part of the preventive measures against COVID-19 are information drive and activation of the Barangay Health and Emergency Response Teams.
Dela Cruz said the community is also asked to report townmates who arrived from high risk places.
He said the local government has also improved and strengthened quarantine facilities that can now accommodate 60 persons.
Dela Cruz said there is also the mandatory quarantine and swab testing for Returning Overseas Filipinos and Locally Stranded Individuals.
They also immediately extract positives patients and their close contacts and suspected cases from community and subject them to facility quarantine.
“They are only to be released after negative result of their confirmatory swab test,” dela Cruz said.
Strict implementation of minimum health safety protocols on establishments and offices such as wearing of face mask and face shields are also in place.
There are also designated hand-washing areas.
The residents as well as visitors are also advised to maintain social distancing.
DSB, which is tagged as the little Baguio of the province because of its cool weather, is already open to tourists since October 16.
