Dolphin found dead in Pulupandan

BACOLOD City – A fisherman found a dead dolphin floating on the waters of Barangay Patic, Pulupandan, Negros Occidental early Wednesday.

The Lumba Project, a website about the critically endangered Irrawaddy dolphins found in Bago and Pulupandan areas in the province, reported that the dolphin was found by Jeremias Gabayeron around 3 a.m.

Lumba Project is a center for research and engagement of the University of St. La Salle here.

They opened its stomach to see if there were plastics, but none was found. However, it had multiple puncture wounds probably caused by cookie cutter sharks. They, however, cannot tell if the injuries caused its death, because it was already in its advance state of decomposition.

This is the fourth dead dolphin that got stranded in Bago-Pulupandan coastal area.

Last month, a decomposing spinner dolphin was also found on the beach of Barangay Zone 1 in the said town.
