The Department of Labor and Employment has issued Labor Advisory No. 16, encouraging workplace-based cervical cancer screening and early detection efforts nationwide.
Labor Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma signed the advisory pursuant to Article 5 of the Labor Code and in support of Presidential Proclamation No. 368, which declares May as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.
The advisory aims to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health concern through prevention and early detection initiatives in the workplace.
Covered establishments are encouraged to organize and facilitate cervical cancer screening activities and related services for female employees.
Employers are also advised to implement workplace-based interventions that promote cervical cancer awareness, prevention, health education, and information campaigns.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) urges employers to promote the benefits of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and routine screening.
Companies are encouraged to integrate cancer screening and treatment into their existing Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) packages and to partner with Department of Health-retained hospitals and accredited providers to ensure service accessibility.
All employers in the private sector must excuse employees from work when undergoing cervical cancer screening.
Employees who accompany their children for HPV vaccination or care for those with post-vaccination side effects may also be excused from work, provided they submit proof of screening, vaccination, or medical attendance upon returning.
Employers are instructed to submit reports on the number of women screened to the appropriate Centers for Health Development for monitoring and evaluation.
