Goran Ivanisevic, Novak Djokovic’s coach, confirmed and announced through his Instagram account that he had tested positive for COVID-19.
The former Wimbledon champion was the director of the Adria tour exhibition series which was suspended after participating players Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric, Viktor Troicki, and Djokovic contracted the virus.
Ivanisevic once defended his prodigy after being criticized in holding a sports event with the pandemic still ongoing across the nation.
“Unfortunately … I have just found out that I tested positive to COVID-19. I feel good and I don’t have any symptoms. I will continue to self-isolate,” wrote Ivanisevic in his Instagram post.
With the chaos the Adria tour created, Djokovic issued a public apology not only to the tennis fans but also to the people of Croatia and Serbia where the events were held.
His wife, Jelena, also tested positive.
The organizers have decided to conduct mass testing to help determine if more people were infected after several players and staff turned out positive for COVID-19.
