Serbian lawn tennis superstar Novak Djokovic showed why he is the world no. 1 after trouncing Matteo Berrettini of Italy, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3, and raised his second-straight Grand Slam championship trophy in just two months.
Entering the grass surface as the heavy favorite, Djokovic faced a lot of pressure and had to withstand an early meltdown after Berrettini pulled off a stunning come from behind win in the first set.
Djokovic was leading 5-3 in the first set but the Italian world No. 7 showed tremendous defense and was able to lock up the baseline area.
The effective use of the defensive slice was depended on by Berrettini and was able to contain Djokovic’s high-paced returns.
However, soon as Djokovic held his first service, the entire momentum swung to his side and showed no mercy against the Italian challenger.
Djokovic was bullying Berrettini both in the baseline and in the serve-and-volley game as he aggressively flipped the switch and never looked back.
The Wimbledon victory gave Djokovic his 20th Grand Slam overall and tied living legends Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer with the most majors won in the history of men’s tennis.
