A disc jockey was wounded after he was shot inside his store on Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan, a major tourist destination, on the afternoon of Oct. 14.
Melvin, 39, of Sitio Manggayad, Barangay Manoc-Manoc, Boracay Island, sustained a gunshot wound to the upper part of his body.
He was rushed to Ciriaco S. Tirol Hospital on Boracay and was later referred to a hospital in Kalibo. He is now in stable condition.
According to reports, Melvin was inside his cellphone and gadget repair shop, Boracay TechMobile, when the incident happened.
Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, a man identified by police as “Henry,” 40, of Sitio Bolabog, Barangay Balabag, Boracay Island, barged in.
The suspect drew a firearm from his waist. Melvin attempted to prevent the suspect from drawing his weapon. A struggle ensued between the two.
However, the suspect managed to fire his gun twice, hitting the victim. The wounded victim continued to resist until they both ended outside the store.
Melvin then shouted for help. A security guard on duty from a nearby establishment responded and helped the victim subdue the suspect.
Police were immediately called and arrested the suspect.
Responding officers recovered a .45-caliber STI Austin USA pistol (serial number 258179) with a magazine loaded with four rounds.
Lt. Col. Alain Terence Licdan, Malay police chief, said old grudges appeared to be the motive.
Henry used to be Melvin’s landlord. The two had a misunderstanding over the tenancy that also reached social media. This allegedly angered the suspect, thus, the attack.
The suspect is now detained and will be charged with frustrated murder.
