Detainee’s kin seeks help for medical checkup

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The brother of a detainee at the Capiz Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Lawaan here has appealed to the government to allow the detainee to undergo a medical checkup because of a severe health condition.

According to alias Joe, his brother has been detained for two years over a rape case, which is still being heard in court.

He said his brother has a prostate ailment that has worsened while he remains detained at the provincial jail.

“Makita sa itsura ni brother nga daw sa nagalala na ang iya ginasupreher nga balatian nga daw indi na nya makaya’,” alias Joe said.

Arjuna Yngcong, provincial warden of the Capiz Rehabilitation Center, said he immediately attended to the detainee’s concern by bringing him to a hospital for a checkup.

He said laboratory procedures and other tests should be shouldered by the detainee.

Yngcong said he will help process the financial assistance needed by the detainee.

The detainee is set to undergo an ultrasound to monitor his condition.

Jail authorities are required to provide health services to persons deprived of liberty, including medical assessment, consultations, health monitoring, and medicines, subject to availability.
