The creative economy contributed an estimated 7.3% of the Philippines’ gross domestic product in 2024, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority, underscoring the sector’s growing influence on business, culture, and employment.
As artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly transforms content creation, Filipino brands and creators face mounting pressure to adapt to new tools while preserving the authenticity that resonates with local audiences.
Canva recently unveiled its Design Trends 2026 report, drawing insights from its Design Advisory Board, a survey of 1,000 creators in the United States and Brazil, and behavioral data from more than 260 million creators using the platform worldwide.
The report highlights a central theme that visual authenticity is becoming increasingly important as AI becomes more deeply embedded in creative workflows.
This shift has given rise to a new creative standard dubbed “Imperfect by Design,” where creators favor designs that feel human, expressive, and relatable rather than overly polished or machine-perfect outputs.
“AI is accelerating how Filipinos create, but it’s human emotion that keeps the work meaningful,” said Angelo Cuyegkeng, design lead for Canva Philippines.
“We’re seeing creators embrace designs that feel imperfect, expressive, and deeply personal—and that’s becoming the new creative edge in 2026.”
AI has also become a core component of creative workflows, with 49% of creators using AI-powered tools weekly and 30% using them daily, reinforcing its role as a creative collaborator rather than a replacement.
Among the key visual trends for 2026 is “Reality Warp,” driven by AI and characterized by bold, surreal visuals designed to capture attention and amplify self-expression.
Other trends identified include “Drama Club” and “Prompt Playground,” reflecting growing experimentation as creators use AI to transform technical formats into playful and imaginative creative outputs.
Canva data also show that searches related to lo-fi, motion collage, and retro-tech aesthetics increased by 48.9%, signaling renewed interest in nostalgic and tactile visual styles.
Conversely, searches for “clean layout,” “serif,” and “simple branding” rose 54% year over year, reaching 45 million impressions on the platform, indicating sustained demand for minimalist and classic design approaches.
Industry observers note that this dual movement toward both expressive maximalism and refined simplicity reflects how creators are testing the boundaries of AI-assisted design.
In an increasingly automated creative landscape, designs that feel genuine and emotionally resonant may stand out most as Filipino brands seek to use AI with intention while keeping human creativity and authenticity at the core of their strategies for 2026.
