Dengue deaths in Capiz rise to five, 2,092 affected

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Dengue cases in the province of Capiz have reached alarming levels, with five deaths reported and 2,092 individuals affected.
Cases of the deadly virus surged by 318.40%, with 272 new cases recently reported, according to the latest bulletin released by the Capiz Provincial Health Office for Week 34, covering January 1 to August 24, 2024.
The figure represents a significant increase compared to the same period last year.
In response to the outbreak, Capiz was placed under a state of calamity by Governor Fredenil Oto Castro last week.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Capiz confirmed the declaration during its regular session on Tuesday, August 27.
Meanwhile, 145 barangays in the province have been placed under a ‘clustering of cases’ due to the high concentration of dengue infections. The affected barangays include:
- Cuartero: Agdahon, Angub, Bitoon Ilawod, Bitoon Ilaya, Población Ilawod, Población Ilaya, Población Takas, Putian, San Antonio
- Dao: Agtambi, Balucuan, Duyoc, Ilas Sur, Lacaron, Manhoy, Matagnop, Población Ilawod
- Dumarao: Aglalana, Astorga, Bungsuan, Codingle, Dacuton, Ginutos, Janguslob, Ongol Ilaya, Población Ilaya, San Juan, Taslan, Tinaytayan
- Dumalag: Concepcion, Consolacion, Duran, Población, San Jose, San Rafael, San Roque, Santa Cruz, Santo Angel, Santo Niño
