Dengue Cases Climb to 550 in Capiz Province

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Dengue cases in Capiz have risen to 550 from January to April 15, despite persistently high heat indices in the province for nearly a month.

Data from the Department of Health–Capiz (DOH-Capiz) showed a 58% increase compared to the same period last year, which recorded 346 cases.

DOH-Capiz recently recorded 15 new cases, with Mambusao accounting for four; Panay, three; Jamindan, two; and Dao, Dumalag, Dumarao, Ivisan, Panitan, Tapaz and Roxas City reporting one case each.

One fatality has been recorded due to dengue.

Clustering of cases was observed in Barangay Tanque in Roxas City and Barangay Agsilab in Sapian town.

The age group with the most reported cases was 10 to 19 years old with 155 cases.

This was followed by 5 to 9 years old with 135 cases, and 1 to 4 years old with 96 cases

DOH-Capiz reminded the public to maintain clean surroundings and practice the 4S strategy to prevent and control the spread of dengue.

The 4S strategy stands for:

Search and destroy mosquito breeding places;

Secure self-protection from mosquito bites;

Seek early consultation;

Say yes to fogging in areas with clustering of cases.
