BACOLOD City – A 12-year-old boy was killed in a road accident at Sitio Tanquinto, Barangay Jonob-Jonob, Escalante City, Negros Occidental last Thursday.
The name of the victim was withheld.
Police Staff Sergeant Alberto Dela Cruz Jr., traffic investigator of Escalante City Police Station, said the delivery van loaded with groceries was descending to Barangay Balintawak from Barangay Buenavista, when the victim suddenly crossed the street.
The victim was carrying nipa palms on his right shoulder when the accident happened.
Dela Cruz said it’s possible that the victim failed to notice the approaching vehicle driven by Harim Marquez, 40, of Tondo, Manila, as he was carrying some nipa palms.
“Nag preno daw siya hingagaw pero nalab-ot gid ang bata,” he added.
Dela Cruz said the victim was ran over that caused his immediate death.
Dela Cruz said that Marquez was released from police custody after the lapse of his reglementary detention.
