Iloilo City lone district Rep. Julienne Baronda said Friday, June 6, that the 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will proceed as scheduled on December 1.
In a radio interview, Baronda, a Deputy Majority Leader in the 19th Congress, said the BSKE remains on track for this December.
“As a member of the Committee on Rules, we are part of the planning and we know the status. As of now, the BSKE, since Congress hasn’t acted on it, will push through,” she said.
House Bill No. 10344, which seeks to reset the 2025 BSKE to the last Monday of October 2026, has remained pending before the Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms since May 8, 2024.
Baronda said Congress, which resumed session this week after the 2025 national and local elections, has not tackled any bills related to the BSKE postponement.
She admitted that even if the bills were taken up in the coming days, it would likely be too late, as the 19th Congress will adjourn sine die on June 13.
The 20th Congress will open on July 27.
Under Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Resolution No. 11132, promulgated on March 21, 2025, voter registration will run from July 1 to 11.
Filing of certificates of candidacy is set for October 1 to 7, including weekends.
The official nine-day campaign period will begin on November 20.
The official election period will run from October 27 to December 31, during which COMELEC will enforce key provisions of Batas Pambansa Blg. 881 (Omnibus Election Code), including the prohibition of firearms.
