Deaths in Guimaras drop by 24.09% in 2022; acute cardiac arrest leading cause of mortalities

Registered death cases in Guimaras dropped by 24.09 percent, from 1,577 in 2021 to 1,197 in 2022, with acute cardiac arrest as the leading cause that claimed 129 lives mostly males, according to data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The other top leading causes of deaths were Community-Acquired Pneumonia, Cerebrovascular disease, Acute Myocardial Infarction, and Sepsis.

Males accounted for most of the deaths compared to females, with an average gender gap of 15.19 percent.

Sibunag posted the biggest reduction in death cases at –69.66 percent, from 234 fatalities in 2021 to 71 in 2022.

Deaths in Nueva Valencia dropped by –38.00%, followed by Buenavista (–22.34%), and San Lorenzo (–12.88%).

“Only Jordan had an increase in fatalities in 2022 by 1.17% at a recorded 520 cases from 514 a year ago,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.

More males died than females on a monthly basis, except for May wherein more females died than males, with a slim gender gap of 2.3%. (See Figure 1)

“The highest cases were in January with 125 deaths and a gender gap of 20.0%. Followed by November and September with 116 cases each and a gender gap of 6.9% and 5.2%, respectively,” Losare said.
