Superstar point guard De’Aaron Fox secured a major payday after the San Antonio Spurs signed him to a four-year, PHP13.2 billion ($229 million) contract extension announced on August 5, 2025.
According to ESPN insider Shams Charania, the deal includes no player option in the final year, keeping Fox in San Antonio through the 2029–2030 NBA season.
Fox was acquired by the Spurs in February via a blockbuster three-team trade with the Chicago Bulls and the Sacramento Kings — the franchise that drafted him fifth overall in the 2017 NBA Draft.
He boosted his trade value after leading the Kings to snap a 16-year playoff drought in 2023.
That season, he gave Kings fans renewed hope after taking a 2-0 series lead against Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, though Sacramento eventually bowed out in the first round.
Fox struggled to replicate that success the following year, settling for a play-in tournament finish after Sacramento dropped from the third seed.
Before being traded, he still averaged strong numbers — 25.0 points, 6.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.
Upon joining the Spurs, Fox remained productive despite an adjustment phase, averaging 19.7 points, 6.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds across 17 games.
His campaign was cut short in March after undergoing surgery to repair tendon damage in his pinkie finger.
The Spurs’ vision of pairing Fox with phenom Victor Wembanyama also fell short last season after the 7-foot-4 Frenchman was diagnosed with blood clots in his right shoulder.
San Antonio eventually shut Wembanyama down for the season and began his rehabilitation.
Two weeks ago, the Spurs announced Wembanyama had been medically cleared and would return to the starting lineup when the NBA season tips off this October.
With both stars healthy, can the Fox-Wembanyama duo finally bring the Spurs back to the NBA Playoffs and end their six-year postseason drought?
