Dao fire destroys house, repair shop

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A house and an auto repair shop were destroyed by fire early Thursday, Aug. 13, in Sitio Tambak, Barangay Matagnop, Dao, Capiz.
Police identified the shop owner as Botito Estorque, a 53-year-old auto mechanic and resident of the area.
The Dao Municipal Police Station said a man riding a motorcycle was reportedly seen arriving at and leaving the area before the fire.
A few minutes later, Estorque heard a loud explosion and went outside his house.
He found the rear of his multicab burning in the parking area of his shop.
Estorque tried to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher but could not contain the flames.
The Dao Fire Station responded, but the shop, which was made of light materials, and the adjoining house were destroyed.
Three multicabs were also burned, while several agricultural engines were damaged.
Estorque said he believed the fire was deliberately set.
Arson investigators from the Dao Bureau of Fire Protection are working to determine the cause of the fire and the total damage.
