Cyclist killed in road mishap

A teenage cyclist died in a road incident in Miagao, Iloilo morning of October 2, 2021.
Police identified the victim as 19-year-old Chester Miagar.
Miagar suffered head and body injuries. He was declared dead on arrival at Miagao Rural Healthy Clinic.
Reports indicated that Miagar was cycling at Barangay Palaca around 10 am Saturday when the incident happened.
Witnesses said Miagar was running behind a tricycle driven by Alvin Palcon, 48, a resident of Barangay Oyungan.
Investigation showed that Palcon suddenly stopped, which might have taken Miagar by surprise.
The victim readily applied his brake which caused him to stumble. He fell on the middle of the road and was sideswiped by the rear tire of a dump truck, which was running on opposite lane.
The truck, which was driven Gerold Lauderez, a resident of Barangay San Jose, San Miguel, Iloilo, came from Igbaras town and was headed to Sibalom, Antique when the incident happened.
Both drivers were arrested and are now on police custody.
