BACOLOD CITY — A commotion triggered by drunkenness resulted in the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old criminology student after he tried to pacify his drunken neighbor in Hacienda New Casal-agan, Barangay Antipolo, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, on Monday.
Police identified the fatality as Charm.
Police Capt. Darryl Kuhutan, chief of the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, said the 43-year-old suspect, identified only as Arthur, arrived home from a drinking session and reportedly went berserk while armed with a kitchen knife.
His 53-year-old brother-in-law, Agustin, first tried to pacify him.
The situation escalated when the suspect became violent and allegedly attacked Agustin, hitting him in the forearm.
The student intervened to pacify the commotion but was also attacked by the suspect, who stabbed him in the armpit.
He was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Responding police officers caught the fleeing suspect walking along the road in Barangay Canroma.
Kuhutan said it was the first time the suspect had acted violently while intoxicated.
Homicide charges were filed against the suspect on Tuesday, according to Kuhutan.
