Criminology student killed in Sigma motorcycle crash

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A criminology student died and his passenger was wounded after their motorcycle hit a bridge guardrail Saturday night, Feb. 28, in Brgy. Poblacion Norte, Sigma, Capiz.
Police identified the victims as alias “Matmat,” 20, the motorcycle driver, and alias “Rodel,” 21, the passenger, both residents of Brgy. Amaga, Sigma.
An investigation by the Sigma police said the two were on their way to Brgy. Guintas when “Matmat” lost control of the motorcycle while approaching the bridge and struck the guardrail.
Both sustained head and body injuries, police said.
Responders from the Bureau of Fire Protection in Sigma and the Sigma Response Team administered first aid before bringing the victims to hospitals.
Police said “Matmat” was taken to Sen. Gerardo Roxas District Hospital in Dao, Capiz, where he died hours later.
“Rodel” was brought to Mambusao District Hospital in Mambusao and was reported in stable condition.
Police said they are investigating the incident.
