A criminology student died after crashing his motorcycle into a concrete fence shortly before midnight on April 13 in Banate, Iloilo.
The victim was identified as Lengie Bersabal, 21, of Barangay Bulaqueña, Estancia.
He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
His friend and fellow criminology student, Mark Christ Alonday, 21, also from Barangay Bulaqueña, survived the crash and is now in stable condition.
The two reportedly came from Estancia and were heading to Iloilo City when the incident occurred.
While navigating a curved section of the road in Barangay Alacaygan, Banate, at around 11:40 p.m. Sunday, Bersabal’s Kawasaki motorcycle overshot the road and crashed into a fence.
The impact threw Alonday off the motorcycle, while Bersabal and his vehicle landed on top of a collapsed portion of the wall.
Reports said both were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
They were reportedly on their way to enroll as third-year criminology students at the University of Iloilo the following Monday.
Initial investigation indicated the two were not under the influence of alcohol.
However, they were allegedly speeding while negotiating the curve.
Meanwhile, the owners of the house whose fence was damaged said they would waive any claims for damages.
