The Central Philippine University Golden Lions energized the Ilonggos in the San Agustin gym as they crushed the University of Northern Philippines volleyball squad in day 4 of the 2019 UNIGAMES, 25-23, 25-14, 25-16.
CPU started slow and sluggish, letting NUP control the pace of the game with their backline offense that caught the Lions’ defenders off-guard.
Trailing 14 to 9, CPU then sparked their run to equalize and take over momentum as they began to connect with their quick-set offense that began to expose NUP’s net defense.
As the game progressed, CPU became consistent with their offense and their tremendous jump serves that made it hard for NUP to receive.
With momentum and the lead by their side, CPU then started to unleash a barrage of powerful spikes that were not received well by NUP, causing them to fumble and give away the match.
In the third set, NUP tried to adjust by playing more drop balls in favor of their spike offense to keep CPU’s net defense busy but that also didn’t bother the Golden Lions as they cruised past the visitors and put smiles in the Ilonggo community’s faces.
