COVID-19 has infected Iloilo City Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, his wife, two children, two grandchildren and a house attendant.
Rara Ganzon, daughter of the vice mayor and an employee of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, confirmed the information in an interview on Wednesday.
According to Rara, the whole household was subjected to swab test after some of them manifested mild symptoms, including her 10-year-old son who had a fever.
“Initially, dad was scheduled to undergo a swab test as part of the massive testing of employees at the Iloilo City Hall including my mom as a senior. But some of us already manifested mild symptoms. My son had a fever and didto ko naisip basi may infection so it’s better na lang to get tested,” Rara said.
All seven household members underwent testing and were positive for COVID-19.
Rara said most of them experienced mild symptoms such as common cold, fever, and mild cough.
Rara added that she and her sister, Dr. Niña Ganzon, a barangay kagawad of San Antonio, Molo, were already fully vaccinated. They both have milder symptoms.
“Actually, kami sang sister ko were already fully vaccinated as frontliners. But although na-infect kami, kami ya ang may pinaka-mild na symptoms and ako I’m sure na I won’t fall sa severe cases,” she added.
Vice Mayor Ganzon, on the other hand, is asymptomatic. This is already the second time that he was infected with COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Rara reminded Ilonggos to strictly observe minimum health standards and not be complacent as she stressed that the virus is unforeseen and may infect anyone. She also encouraged Ilonggos to get vaccinated to prevent the spread of the virus and severe symptoms.
“I hope Ilonggos will not be complacent and mag-observe gid strict protocols and minimum health standards because our enemy is something that is unforeseen and cannot be seen. Just like what happened to us. May it remind you to always follow the protocols,” she said.
The Ganzon compound has been locked down and the infected household members are under home quarantine. (ERS)
